Eating and Drinking in the Masjid

Maybe some clarity could be given to the issue of when the people in charge of the masjid request: No eating in the masjid...

Because, as we have seen in the case of the permissibility of shoes in the masjid, many people may assume that the established permissibility overrides the specific rules of some masjids. People used to go into the masjids with their shoes, in violation of a specific masjid's posted rules, and this would result in arguments and animosity... and worse.
