    Exclamation Sha'baan - Important Fataawaa & Articles

Some Fataawaa / Articles Regarding Sha'baan

Please click the titles to view the full fatwa/article.
    • Missed fasts must be made up for before the next Ramadan (www.alIfta.org)
"Everyone who has days to make up from previous Ramadan has to make up for those days before the next Ramadan. They may delay making up for them until Sha‘ban, but if the next Ramadan comes and they still have not made up for those days, without an excuse, they are considered sinful for that. They should make up for these days later and also feed a needy person for each missed day. ..." (please click the title for more explanation in the full article)
    • Deeds are Presented to Allah during Sha'ban (Translated by brother Abu Aaliyah Abdullah ibn Dwight on SalafiTalk.net - please see the source for the scholars' grading & explanation of this hadeeth.):
Hadeeth: Usamah ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I asked the messenger of Allah a question. I asked why do you fast in Sha'ban more than any other month?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied saying; "People are negligent between Rajab and Ramadan. During Sha'baan the deeds are presented to the Lord of all the worlds. Therefore I desire to be fasting when my deeds are lifted."
    • Fasting much in Sha`ban (www.alIfta.org)
... This also applies to fasting the first half of Sha‘ban. It is also an act of Sunnah to observe Sawm the whole of this month, or most of it. As for dedicating the middle of Sha‘ban for Sawm, it is Makruh (reprehensible) and groundless. ... (Also see: Reconciling between the Hadith: "When Sha'baan is halfway through, do not fast" and the Hadith: "The most preferred month for him was Sha`ban and he joined it with Ramadan" by Shaykh ibn Baaz in the 6th post in this thread.)
    • Forgiveness On the 15th Night of Sha'ban (Shaykh al-Albaanee, trans: Bro. Moosaa Richardson on SalafiTalk.Net):
Hadeeth: "Allaah, the Blessed and Exalted, comes to His Creation on Laylatun-Nisf (the 15th night) of Sha'baan, and He forgives all of His Creation, except for the polytheist and the mushaahin".
[Please see the above source for Shaykh al-Albaanee's - rahimahullaah - comments on this hadeeth (translated by Bro. Moosaa Richardson). Also see the explanation of Haafidh Ibn Rajab - may Allah have mercy upon him - translated by brother Abu Aaliyah Abdullah ibn Dwight on SalafiTalk.net (it's the 3rd post in the thread).]
      BUT
"The authenticity of this hadeeth does not necessitate taking this night as an occasion to gather with the people and perform acts of innovation like those the author mentioned…"
"There is not any authentic evidence that supports making a special Du‘a’ or act of worship on the fifteenth night of Sha‘ban. So specifying it (the 15th night) for this is a Bid‘ah (innovation in religion), because the Prophet (may Allah raise his rank and grant him peace) said: "Every newly introduced matter is a Bid‘ah and every Bid‘ah is a Dalalah (deviation from what is right)." (via alIfta.com)
    • Celebrating Mawlid & Mid-Sha'baan (www.alIfta.org)
      ... Celebrating the 15th night of Sha‘ban is a Bid‘ah (innovation in religion) ..

    And Allah knows best
and may He raise the rank of our Prophet and grant him peace.

    Exclamation

Is there any difference regarding the authenticity of these two ahadeeth amongst the scholars? If so may I know why some of them authenticate them and some say all ahadeeth mentioning the virtue of the (night of) 15th of sha'baan are daeef?

Today is the 13th of Sha'baan in Pakistan and I would really like to know before the 15th.

Lightbulb Hadeeth concerning the 15th of sha'baan.

    (Grading: Saheeh, reference: 1563)

Could some please translate this? Specially Imam Al-Awzaa'i's statement?

Please see the first post above for some Articles & Fataawaa on Sha'ban.

According to the Official Saudi Umm-ul-Quraa Calendar, Monday, June 10th 2013, was the 1st of Sha'ban in Saudi Arabia. May Allaah grant us success in fasting much of it as the Prophet - may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace - used to.

As a benefit, the following is a fatwa from Great Scholar, Shaykh ibn Baaz - may Allaah have mercy upon him about reconciling between the two hadeeths: "When Sha`ban is halfway through, do not fast until the advent of Ramadan" and "The most preferred month for him (the Prophet) to fast was Sha`ban and he joined it with Ramadan"

Question: I read in "Sahih Al-Jami`" Hadith no. (397) which was verified by Al-Albany and related by Al-Suyuty (398) Sahih, on the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), that he said: The Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) stated: "When Sha`ban is halfway through, do not fast until the advent of Ramadan" There is also another Hadith related by Al-Suyuty numbered (8757) Sahih, verified by Al-Albany in "Sahih Al-Jami`" numbered (4638) on the authority of `Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: "The most preferred month for him (the Prophet, may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) to fast was Sha`ban and he joined it with Ramadan". How can we reconcile between both Hadith?

Answer: In the Name of Allah, and all praise be to Allah!

To proceed: the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasalaam) used to fast the whole of Sha'baan and at times, he fasted all of it except for few days, as authentically reported from the Hadith of 'Aishah and Umm Salamah. As for the Hadith mentioning the prohibition of observing Sawm (Fast) after the middle of Sha'baan, it is Sahih as mentioned by the brother, al-'Allaamah ash-Shaykh Nasir Al-Din Al-Albany. What is meant by it is that it is prohibited to start fasting after halfway through the month, but if a person fasts most or all of the month, they will be following the Sunnah (supererogatory act of worship following the example of the Prophet). May Allah grant us success.
