The great scholar, Ibn Qayyim al-Jowziyyah, explained a very important relationship between fiqh and aqeedah, regarding the issue of QIYAAS (analogy).

QIYAAS is when you consider one issue that does not have an explicit text about it to be similar to another issue which does, and then apply the ruling associated with the latter to the former.

In his book, I'laam al-Muwaqqi'een, he says that incorrect QIYAAS is the reason for every type of misguidance!

He gives examples of the Jahmiyyah, and how they rejected attributes of Allaah, after false QIYAAS, when they thought that the attributes must be considered like human attributes, and then rejected them based on false QIYAAS.

He gives the example of the Raafidhah, and how they built a false QIYAAS of lineage, and began to love and hate (Companions) based on this QIYAAS.

He gives the example of Iblees, when he refused to prostrate to Aadam, using false QIYAAS, claiming that the material he was created from was better than the material Aadam was made from, and thus he should be considered better. False QIYAAS in the face of a clear order from Allaah to prostrate! And it was the first sin ever committed, and it was based on a false QIYAAS.

Review his words in the book: I'laam al-Muwaqqi'een.

Thus, students of fiqh and usool should be Salafee and clear in their 'aqeedah, since they focus heavily on studying the issues related to QIYAAS, they should be among the first of the people to pinpoint exactly how innovators have gone astray.

And Allaah knows best.
